Michael Sailstorfer's "Forest" Sculpture and the Environment
Every time I come across an artist doing something interesting with the idea of sculpture and the environment I'm sort of awestruck. I'm starting to get more and more interested in the functionality of materials and how humans interact with them. Let's just say I have a sort of sentimentality for objects and space so installations seem right up my ally. German artist Michael Sailstorfer's "Forest" installation is sculptural, maniacal and organic. Watch the video at the top and you won't be disappointed.
The bottom video is a lot longer (59:27) but is entirely worth watching also (plus it's in English). If you don't have time to watch the whole video skip 8 minutes into it and see a video of the project where he deconstructs a log cabin completely by burning it all in its own stove.
