Camellia 'Winter's Star'

Camellias are an evergreen shrub and small tree that are loved for their flowering. This version is a small tree version and is actually several Camellias planted near each other. Camellia 'Winter's Star' bloom from late winter to early spring so it was one of the few plants I saw blooming.

Camellias are named after Georg Joseph Camel (1661-1706) a Jesuit missionary to the Philippines to whom main interest in plants was for the use of medicine. It does not seem however that Camel ever used a Camellia but instead they were named after him purely in his honor.
