American arborvitae

I happened across a little American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Art Boe' NORTH POLE) which is an evergreen tree native to eastern Canada all the way to Ohio and New York. Very useful in gardens as a shrub for borders. Can grow 10' to 15' tall in a narrow column. (I'm not a plant expert but it's surprising what you can learn.)

Leaves And Trees: The Search

I started collecting leaves. Why? Because there is a certain time in a photographer's life where he has taken enough pictures of a certain subject that then that person realizes "I have no idea what I'm doing". No, I don't mean that he or she doesn't know how to take great pictures, but instead, what I mean is they don't know enough about the subject they are taking pictures of. I've learned a lot about art but I want to learn more about trees. That's why I started a leaf collection and is spotlighting a tree each month on my website. My first leaf is from the Persian ironwood tree (Parrotia persica) The picture below is of a smaller leaf and a bigger leaf from the same tree
